Hi all, haven't been on here for quite a while. It is powered by FFmpeg, MEncoder, tsMuxeR, MediaInfo and more, which combine to offer support for a wide range of media formats." The program streams or transcodes video, audio and image formats with little or no configuration. Universal Media Server supports all major operating systems, with versions for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.

UMS was started by SubJunk, an official developer of PMS, in order to ensure greater stability and file-compatibility. It was originally based on PS3 Media Server by shagrath. "Universal Media Server is a DLNA-compliant UPnP Media Server. UMS will work when I forget to reboot, which makes the wife happy :) I have trouble accessing my "Media" PC after I copy video from my "Work" PC via network shares and I forget to reboot the "Media" PC. Note:- I have not tried my Samsung Galaxy S2 Phone or my Samsung Galaxy Tab S (10.5) WiFi as of yet, so I cannot say if it works with them or not. It allows access to my video library by my Sony KDL-55HX750, WesternDigital TV Live HD Media Player and other PC's on the network.

This weekend I may actually have some time to finally integrate it all: loxone interface to control kodi/pc/amplifier (via eventghost), squeezebox (with eventghost xap data) and maybe even start on playing with controlling the lights from within eventghost (simple http commands would allow for this).I needed a Windows Media Server 7 replacement and I found this. I disabled all plugins I could disable, and also disabled all menu entries I do not need.

So I've decided to only use kodi as a browser for files and as the videoplayer (maybe later also photos). So I resorted to MPC-HC and no nice interface. NextPVR is very stable, but cannot always play back its own recordings (codecs are ok - trying to get a sample to send to the developer). Kodi for playback of videos: it is the only player I can control from eventghost that supports wasapi, madvr and possibly edl. I keep running into issues with MediaPortal (it just freezes the pc, nothing in logs), and am quite happy with NextPVR for the recording.
